I. About us

On May 5, 2011, the United States-European Union Government Initiatives Foundation, Inc., was incorporated as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization in Washington, DC.

The Foundation is organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and, through its signature Public Diplomacy undertakings, assists the best and brightest American and European leaders of tomorrow in enhancing their skills and talents in forging transatlantic relations.

II. Mission

The Foundation's primary mission is to develop and implement - through direct contact with US and EU institutional players, field experts and policy-specific advocates - high-profile and career-enhancing Public Diplomacy platforms for future leaders from both sides of the Atlantic whose areas of academic interest, knowledge and presentation skills cover a wide spectrum of transatlantic policy issues.

III. Core Activities

The Foundation's programming portfolio features, to date, three audience-targeted distinct interactive Public Diplomacy undertakings:

I. In partnership with the Brookings Institution, the Transatlantic Intern Roundtable editions, hosted each year in March and August, are dedicated to providing a competency-building platform for top-ranked American and European interns from across Washington's foreign policy community to meet and engage in a substantive discussion on key issues impacting the US-EU partnership.

II. Intern Exchanges between the United States Congress and the European Parliament  offices are designed to spearhead a new generation of internships which aim to enhance congressional and parliamentary interns' careers through direct contact with policy experts at US Government agencies and EU institutions as well as private sector public entities.

III. Future Leaders Internships  offer a unique, first-hand public service experience in the personal office of a US lawmaker. They are designed for Central and Eastern European upperclassmen who exhibit superior scholastic achievement and demonstrate great potential for government leadership. These outstanding young men and women are provided with the academically-challenging opportunity to learn and understand the legislative process of the United States Congress as well as to observe a wide range of fast-paced activities within either a House or Senate office on Capitol Hill.
